Problem #1: Nobody can find your website
This is the most common reason for a website not getting leads in Houston. Your site might be beautifully designed, but if it’s not showing up when people search, it doesn’t matter.
You’re not ranking for the searches that matter
When someone in Cypress needs a plumber, they search “plumber Cypress TX” or “plumber near me.” If your website doesn’t show up for those searches, you don’t exist to that customer.
Check this yourself: search Google for “[your service] [your city]” and see where you rank. If you’re not on page one, most customers will never find you.
Your Google Business Profile is weak or missing
For local Houston businesses, your Google Business Profile often matters more than your website for visibility. When someone searches for a local service, the map pack shows up first — those three business listings with the map.

Problem #2: Your website doesn’t build trust
Let’s say people do find your website. They click. They land on your homepage. What happens next determines whether they become a lead or bounce back to Google.
It looks outdated or unprofessional
Fair or not, people judge your business by your website. If it looks like it was built in 2010, uses stock photos of generic businesspeople, or has obvious design issues, visitors assume your business is equally outdated.
Houston customers have options. They’re comparing you to competitors. If your competitor’s site looks professional and yours looks amateur, they’re calling your competitor.
There’s no proof you’re legitimate
Where are your reviews? Your testimonials? Photos of actual work you’ve done? Credentials and certifications? A real address?

- Show real photos — Your team, your work, your location. Not stock images.
- Display reviews prominently — Embed Google reviews or testimonials on your homepage.
- Include trust signals — Licenses, certifications, awards, years in business, association memberships.
- Show your Houston presence — Real address, local phone number, photos that show you’re actually in the area.
- Update the design — If your site is more than 5 years old, it probably needs a refresh.
Problem #3: Visitors don’t know what to do next
This is a conversion killer that’s easy to miss. A visitor lands on your site, browses around… and then leaves without taking action. Your website isn’t getting leads because you’re not asking for them clearly.
No clear call to action
What do you want visitors to do? Call you? Fill out a form? Book an appointment? That action should be obvious on every page.

Too many options creates paralysis
“Call us! Or email! Or fill out this form! Or chat! Or schedule online! Or visit our office!” When you give people too many options, they often choose none.
Pick your primary conversion action — usually a phone call for service businesses or a form submission for others — and make that the obvious choice.
The fix
- One primary CTA — Decide what action you want most and make it prominent everywhere.
- Phone number in header — Click-to-call on mobile. Visible on every page.
- Contact form above the fold — Don’t make people scroll or click through to find it.
- Use action language — “Get Your Free Quote” beats “Contact Us.”
Problem #4: Your website is too slow or broken on mobile
Technical problems can tank your leads even if everything else is perfect.
Slow loading kills conversions
If your website takes more than 3 seconds to load, you’re losing visitors. People don’t wait anymore. They hit back and call your competitor instead.
Test your site speed at Google’s PageSpeed Insights. If you’re scoring below 50 on mobile, you have a problem that’s costing you leads.
Mobile experience is terrible
Most local searches happen on phones. Someone’s AC breaks in the Houston summer heat, they pull out their phone and search for help. If your website is hard to use on mobile, they’re gone.

Attracting tire-kickers instead of buyers
People searching “how to fix a leaky faucet” are trying to DIY. People searching “plumber Cypress TX” are ready to hire. Make sure your content targets people ready to buy, not just researching.
The fix
Focus your SEO on commercial intent keywords — searches that indicate someone wants to hire, not just learn. Include location modifiers (“Katy,” “Spring,” “The Woodlands”) that indicate local customers. Consider whether Google Ads vs SEO might help you reach buyers more directly.
How to diagnose your specific problem
Here’s a quick way to figure out where your website is failing:
- Check your traffic. Look at Google Analytics. Are people finding your site at all? If traffic is low, visibility is your problem.
- Check bounce rate. If people visit but immediately leave, they don’t like what they see. Trust or design is your problem.
- Check time on site. If people browse but don’t convert, your call-to-action is the problem.
- Check mobile vs desktop. If desktop converts but mobile doesn’t, you have a mobile problem.
- Check traffic sources. If traffic is coming from irrelevant searches, you’re targeting the wrong keywords.
